Post 6 - wallander

This shot is of the two young girls quickly  walking. The shot is a medium dolly from behind as if someone or somthing like their guilty conscience is following them. This type of shot creates the idea of 'why are their faces being covered ?' It makes the audience aslo question 'what are they walking from, or to?' The fact the shot has both the girls in it shows the auidience they have a close relationship as they're close to eachother.

In this shot we can hear the two girls heavy breathing which suggests they have been involved in some physical situation. The questions this brings to the audiences attention is 'could they have been the ones to attack the taxi man? as if they are heavy breathing they have obviously been doing something physically demanding.

The mise en scene in this shot creates the meaning that the girls on the left is in more important than the girls on the right as she is out of focous and her coustume doesnt seem to be as outragous as the girl on the left. The girl on the left is wearing a leather jacket and has red in hair which shows she takes pride in what she looks like, also this could also show danger as leather jackets are typically worn by 'bikers' and the red coulor in her hair could forshadow the blood on her face from the man in taxi. The blood tells the audience straight away it was them who harmed this man, however it would leave them questioning 'how?'

The editing involving this shot is very quick here as it shows clue about the victim. We get to see theres a tracker in his car with blood on it which implies that there could be a chance hes going to be found. Also the fast editing creates the realtionship the two girls have with the victim which is that they're in control as they have seriously hurt him.

Post 5 - Brick

This shot is a medium close up of some shoes. By the looks of things these shoes belong to a boy. They are not trainers or boots so we sterotypically think hes been to work or school as these brown shows are smart. However the shot only focuses on the shoes which implies that his face is trying to be hidden or the directer doesnt want us to know what he looks like just yet.

The editing in this part of the clip shows the girl on the floor then the boys face, each time get closer to his face. The shots are of the girls shoes, hair, then her hand. The shot of the girls hand in the water implies her life is slipping away like the water is throught her lifeless fingers. The  editing then quickly changes to the same girls hand putting a note into someones locker at school. We can tell the hand belongs to the girl as the braclets are exactly the same. This tells the audience that this shot is in the past when she was alive. Also it makes the audience question who the note is for, 'isit the boys locker whos with her?'

The music in the titles is of cowbells which makes the auidience think of a western country. Also there is a faint sound of running water, which later relates to where the girl is. The cowbells confuse the audience when the film begins as it isnt set in a western country.

Within the mise en scene in this shot we can see the boy looking at the girl 'emily' who appears to be dead on the floor. We can see a tunnel where either sewage or water runs through. The way she is laying make the audience question whether she jumped off or was pushed.

Post 4 - The sixth sense

This is the opening sequence of ‘The sixth sense’ The titles are accompanied by a string group which causes the audiences to be scared as this type of music is typically used in horror films. The audience would be questioning whether the film is going to be scary. The font type used is very serious and is in a light wash of blue on a black background. The black background could imply the idea of the unknown as black shows darkness and death.

This close up of an ancient light bulb is using the rule of thirds here as there is space on the right and a little space on the left. The light bulb has been turned on in a old and not normally used room. The reason we know this is because the mise en scene has just a light bulb within it, the directer has done this on purpose to have the audiences focus on this one object. The collection of dust and dirt tells the audience it is old and hasn’t been cleaned for a while. Also the light bulb is used for a reason, which is to light a dark room. The darkness of the room before the light bulb is turned on relates to the titles where the black background is used which cause the audience to think of the unknown in the dark. This has a connection with the title of the film ‘The sixth sense’ which could be thought of as being able to see things other people may not, or the idea of the unknown which may be ghosts and spirits.

The cinematography in this clip conveys the meaning that the woman is being watched and she has realized or sensed that. The close up gives us a more personal insight to her character. We can see she is wearing makeup and jewellery which implies that she is celebrating or having a special occasion, hence going down into the basement to get some wine. The camera has been placed behind the wine cabinet which conveys the idea that someone or something watching her is trying to hide. There is no sound in this particular shot as the director wants to draw the audience with the silence and pay attention to what her facial expression is showing.

The fact we can hear the litghtbulb slowly turning on creates the feeling of emptyness as the room is so quiet and empty we can herar the quietest of sounds. As the light bulb is the first thing we see it is alos good its the first thing we hear too as it links. The sound is very quiet and almost sounds like a train from far far away. The fact we can hear it allows the audience to feel close to the lightbulb, relating to the fact it is a close up.

Post 3 - Memento

Momento (Nolan, 2000, U.S) The first thing in the opening sequences of 'Momento' is the droning sound whilst the titles are appearing, this kid of sound make the audience think the film is going to be serious. The font used for the titles is a royal blue colour on a black background, the colour is very strong a stands out.

The first image we see is a hand holding onto a photo of dead person. The photo shows the blood on a wall of the person who lies dead. Within the mise en scene we are unable to see who is holding the photo, this makes the audience think whether the hand looks manly or feminine, it also makes them question why the person holding the picture is being hidden. The camera angle of this shot is high and is as if we are the person holding it looking at it. It is also an extreme close up which is done deliberately to make the audience focus on what is in the picture and the hand which get the audience thinking

The hand begins to shake, this would make the audience wonder the person holding the photo must be crying or be old to shake. The non-digetic sound which has turned more into a musical piece involving violins is playing. The person holding the photo shakes it vigorously trying the make the picture clear, only every time he does it the picture fades. The hidden person holding the photo shakes it 4 times as if they are trying to make the image clearer, but because the photo is fading this confuses the audience and makes them question whether this is done to dis guard the photo or whether the shot is being played backwards. The music is still being played as it creates the intensity of the scene.

This extreme close of the man who took the photo is used to show his expression on his face, which is serious and relaxed, he doesn't seem across worried. However we can see sweat on his face which implies he is anxious or has maybe been involved in something physical. There is also two verticle cuts on his face about 3 cm apart. This would create the effect that the man holding the photo was involved. The audience may begin to question 'are those cut from the victim' 'is he the killer'.

This high angle medium shot is used to show the image in the picture but on camera, to look as if we are that man who took the photo. Also within the mise en scene we are able to see the dead mans glasses and blood splattered on them and around his head, implying he has been shot.

This shot is later on after we have discovered the blonde man shot the man with brown hair, shows the man with brown hair is trying the help the man with blonde hair who has a memory problem. They go to get into the man with brown hairs car however the other man says "my car". This shows the blonde man has power over the man who seems to be some sort of work colleague or helper.
